
There are agencies in the community that provide services only for people who come from another country. These agencies serve immigrant people. Some agencies in the community serve everyone (immigrant and non-immigrant) and may have one of their programs or services for immigrants. The following is a list of both these types of agencies listed by location.

Temporary Foreign Workers Advocate Services: Provides assistance to foreign workers with employment standards
and working conditions complaints; immigration difficulties; other government
problems, such as Alberta Health Care; and other legal problems relating
to working in Canada. Note: Agencies that serve only immigrants are listed
first.
Calgary Catholic Immigrant Society Services: Business, employment and training services (including language
instruction), community and education services (including health awareness),
resettlement, family and children services.
Calgary Centre for Newcomers Services: The centre offers language training, job search assistance,
workshop seminars and economic development opportunities. Community development
initiatives include multicultural collective kitchens and a multicultural
parenting program. A volunteer program is also in place.
Calgary Immigrant Aid Society Services: Settlement and Integration Services including individual assistance
in First Language, a family resource centre and an immigrant intergenerational
skill building and support program; Immigrant Language and Vocational Assessment-Referral
Centre; Community and Volunteer Resources Unit which includes a volunteer
program, the Calgary Language Bank (interpretation and translation services),
Citizenship Participation Program, Cultural Partnerships Program, and Culture
Links Program (home tutoring and friendly visiting for homebound immigrants
and refugees.)
Calgary Immigrant Development and Educational Advancement Society (IDEAS)
Services: Provides training for newcomers in the following areas: English
as a Second Language classes (various levels, classes are part-time, full-time
and drop-in), computer training for adults and children. There are fees
for some services.
Calgary Immigrant Women's Association Services: Youth and family support, neighbourhood groups, cross-cultural
parenting program, family conflict program (help with legal issues and housing
as well as family and couple counselling). Skills training and employment
program, volunteer program and LINC (Language Instruction for Newcomers
to Canada).
Calgary Multicultural Centre Services: Community development, leadership, advocacy. The centre has
a small library which is undergoing organization.
Immigrant Language and Vocational Assessment - Referral Centre
Services: English proficiency assessment (CLBA- the Canadian Language
Benchmark Assessment), referrals to LINC (Language Instruction for Newcomers
to Canada) and to English as a Second Language classes, education counselling,
career planning, and job search information.
Jewish Family Service - Resettlement Programs Services: The centre's resettlement program includes vocational and acculturation
(introducing immigrants to Canadian society) programs. Assistance with the
preparation of resumes is provided, as well as assistance with job searches.
Alberta Community Development Citizenship Services Branch Services: this department assists community organizations to identify,
develop and implement issues that deal with equity and/or diversity. The
department's main goals include deterring racism and discrimination and
the promotion of cultural diversity.
Alexandra Community Health Centre Services: Medical, chiropractic and counselling services for individuals
without Alberta Health Care coverage.
Bow Valley College Services: English as a Second Language classes offered at all levels.
The "Bridge Program" helps new Canadians who wish to move from ESL classes
to academic upgrading. "English for Work" is a program which combines English
classes with a practical work placement.
Calgary Bridge Foundation for Youth Services: Mission statement reads: "The Calgary Bridge Foundation for
Youth is committed to assisting immigrant youth to overcome language and
cultural barriers that restrict their access and contribution to society."
The organization teaches lifeskills and offers a Homework Club at the Village
Square, Forest Lawn, Shaganappi, and Thornhill Branches of the Calgary Public
Library. The Homework Club offers help with English and school work.
Calgary Distress Centre Services: Counselling services available (may be available in different
languages).
Calgary Family Service Bureau Services: Counselling services in several languages including Vietnamese,
Spanish, Cantonese.
Calgary Parks and Recreation Services: Tours of all parks and recreations facilities, language bank,
fee assistance programs (for seniors as well as other age groups), support
services for persons with mental and/or physical disabilities, youth programs.
Calgary Police Services - Cultural Resources Services: This unit provides outreach programs to groups to promote awareness
of the police system in Calgary. The unit also provides assistance to individuals
experiencing problems with the police, including seniors who may be experiencing
problems. Each of the police officers in the unit have different areas of
responsibilities; for example, one officer deals specifically with the Asian
community.
Catholic Family Service
Services: Counselling services in several languages. Individual, family and marriage counselling, as well as some group support.

Catholic Social Services ASSIST Community Services Centre Canadian International Immigrant and Refugee Support Association Services: Provides support and advocacy to refugees from all parts of
the world, assists in family reunification, helps newcomers to begin to
settle and adjust to their new lives in Canada.

Changing Together - A Centre for Immigrant Women Services: Provides ESL classes, Prevention of Family Violence Workshops
(non-therapeutic counseling; support groups), Outreach workshops on topics
of interest to immigrant women, information and referrals, volunteer program,
Discovering Personal Development (settlement information about life in Canada),
Mentors for immigrant women seeking employment, assist families with completing
tax returns.
Edmonton Centre for Survivors of Torture and Trauma Services: provides services for refugee and immigrants and their family
members. Provides therapeutic counselling (group or individual) for children,
adults and families.
Services: LINC, ESL, settlement services, family and youth programs, seniors
program and Citizenship classes.
Edmonton Immigrant Services Association Services: Translation and interpreter services, information and referral
services, Legal counseling and Commissioner of Oaths, food and clothing
bank
Indo-Canadian Women's Association Services: Provides a drop-in for women, informal counselling, support
group, settlement services, information and referral, survival English and
citizenship classes, and interpretation.
Mennonite Centre for Newcomers Services: Several settlement programs
Sikh Women's Association of Edmonton Services: Assist immigrant women adapt to Canadian life through education
(ESL, workshops on family violence, resume writing and job search strategies).
Offers counselling to battered (abused) women, youth and elderly.
